Het Hondenhok” (The Dog House), 2011
For this work I delved into the world of Dutch teenagers who mostly live in smaller towns and villages, creating their own sub-culture. They form groups by building their own bars in wooden sheds in which they can create their own environment and set of rules, without social control from parents and other adults. The dog house is a free space with its own set of rules. It travels from one place to another, to help people achieve a sense of youth, but also the feasibility of your own world. The goal is to with this work help people learn to think outside society’s set of rules and that there are ways of life where you can create your own rules.
